Selective timber harvesting provides proper conditions for regeneration (young trees) to become established, ultimately providing a more diverse forest both in age and tree species. This regeneration also provides low browse for wildlife and nesting sites for various species of birds. A healthy and diverse forest is likely more resilient to insect infestations, diseases and forest fires. Over the long term these managed forests are better at sequestering carbon which combats the growing issue today, climate change.

Cut-to-length harvesting is an advanced, high-tech logging method where trees are felled, branches are removed, and logs are cut to precise measurements directly inside the woods. 

During this process, the branches and unmerchantable treetops—known as coarse woody debris—are intentionally left on the forest floor. Rather than removing this material, our machinery utilizes it as a natural driving mat. Leaving this debris behind serves three vital purposes for your property: 

• Ground Stabilization: The wood debris creates a solid base that distributes machine weight and stabilizes the ground during the harvest.
• Soil Nutrient Recycling: As the treetops and branches naturally decompose, they return essential nutrients back into the earth to fuel future timber growth. 
• Wildlife Habitat: The remaining material provides immediate, high-quality cover and foraging habitats for local small wildlife.

We operate strictly in accordance with state forestry laws. Our operations strictly follow the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 132 (Forest Cutting Practices Act) and the official MA Forestry Best Management Practices (BMP) Manual.
